How We Help

Physical Therapy

This is a case study sent from Loyd, our therapist that works in Kenya at the Eldoret Hospital location.

Charles is a 66 year old man who was involved in a road traffic accident 4 weeks ago, and sustained the right patella borne fracture. He underwent surgery and the bone was fixed with k wire. He was initiated on physiotherapy immediately. We're glad to have the knee immobilizer out  and a  new rehabilitation phase of knee ranges of motion and strengthening exercises began  today.

Your kind support has enabled people like Charles to get the quality service of rehabilitation to enable him get back to normal life.

Thank you so much and may God continue using you as a blessing into the lives of more people like Charles.

Access to Wheelchairs

Did you know that wheelchairs are hard to come by in other countries and are critical to helping vulnerable patients who need this type of support. Ian, pictured here, is a paraplegic. He requires a wheelchair to be able to get around. Nancy and her team, along with the help of Compassion PT, helped Ian obtain this wheelchair. Your donations are helping patients like Ian be mobile!

Meet Sharon.

She is a 14 year old girl who first came to physical therapy in February for an evaluation. When we met her she was non verbal and was leaning completely forward over a walker. She had no mechanism of injury and after careful evaluation, there was no structural reason why she was unable to stand up straight on walk without an assistance device. It seemed that her symptoms were psychological and possibly stemmed from emotional trauma.

After a few sessions of therapy and encouraging her to walk straight, she began to make slow and steady progress. It was not until we returned home to the states when we received amazing news from our physical therapists that Sharon had begun to leave her room more and attend the art classes on site at the hospital. She eventually gained strength and confidence to stand up straight and now she is able to walk without an assistance device.

We are so proud of her and the courage it took to make this change for herself.

This is Simon.

Simon suffered a spinal cord injury in a motor vehicle accident. Due to the accident, he had to undergo a spinal decompression surgery immediately. Simon had lost all function of his legs and was diagnosed a paraplegic after the surgery.

While treating him with physical therapy, we saw some return of motor function in his legs. After performing two sessions at his bedside, we decided to stand him up in the parallel bars to work on gait training. To our surprise, after a few sessions in the parallel bars, he began to initiate steps on his own with assistance.

The smile on his face was priceless. Pushing him to do what he believed he could not, empowered him.

Help for Cerebral Palsy

At Compassion PT’s two locations in Kenya, children born with cerebral palsy is very prevalent. Our therapists work hard daily to help these children with strength, mobility, and stability to walk. Most of these children require assistive devices and splints in order to stand vertical and be able to walk. Finding for these types of devices is scarce so the whole clinical team works hard to get these children the resources that they need.

Shantel and Victor are good examples of praise stories where they have better function and quality of life due to physical therapy and these devices.

Compassion PT is always reminded of the importance of telemedicine and working to help each person.  Like Mother Theresa said, “if you can’t feed a thousand, just feed one”.

Pictures of Victor after he received his splints.

Here is a video of Shantel walking with a walker, however her knees continue to collapse inward. We recommended her to receive splints for her ankles and feet.
